Do it Your Self!
In today’s tough times many families are on a budget and feel that it is impossible to do a makeover on their homes.
Well, if you are energetic and don’t mind doing a little work there are so many ways to take existing furniture and accessories and give it a look as if you just replaced it with something new.
Let’s start with furniture. There of course are slip covers to cover up the worn out fabric that you currently have. Or you could spend the money and have it re- upholstered. Or better yet go on line or check out some of your neighborhood thrift stores for bargains.
Furniture that is made from wood is very easy to change the feel. You can paint it, sand it down and re-stain it or better yet if you are looking for that eccentric look even distress the piece.
I have taken existing furniture and did just that to give it a changed look.
I recently took a light fixture roughed it up with steel wool, rubbed a dark stain on it wiped it down. Glazed it and then put a flat spray finish and changed out the globes.
Total cost less than $50 verses going out and spending over $300 on a new fixture.
Some things are trial and error but if you have a vision for something, give it a try, you would be surprised as how creative you really are.
