No kayaking this past weekend. We decided to take the day off and go back to St. Marks. The weather was great for walking and just sitting under a few palm trees to take advantage of the Bay and natural surroundings as well as a variety of birds. On the way in to the park, I was not paying attention to the road nor was I fast enough, as an 8 foot Gator ran directly in front of us. I could not snap the photo so i got a couple of others that look like one of her little ones lurking in the waters edge.
It is so great to take the drive of such a short distance and get out of your vehicle and walk for hours on the trails. I will have to say with all the wildlife and the water table being very low. You need to be extra careful and watch where you are going and what can come out of the brush and possibly head toward you.
Now is also the time of year when the the Monarch Butterflies are starting to come into the reserve. In a few weeks there should be literally thousands of them. Ive been there in the past when they migrate in, it is an unbelievable site to see.
I recommend getting yourself an annual pass for $15 it is well worth it and you can use it whenever.
We also were checking out areas to possibly kayak in the near future.
